April 14th PWA Outing
Introduction:
This was the second outing
conducted for AT 31900 at Purdue University. This outing involved multiple
flight crews of two individuals each, with a few groups swapped around due to
covid-19 issues. Data was collected in this lab for two applications; To gather
a crosshatch flight in order to make a hillshade orthomosaic, and to gather
data to be used later in a burn plot comparison. All flights were conducted by
part 107 licensed operators, under the supervision of Dr. Hupy. No physical
errors occurred during this operation, though there was a few slight data
errors experienced by some crews. This mainly consisted of GCPs not having
enough images to be processed in Pix4dMapper.
Study Area:
Flight outing was conducted at the Purdue
Wildlife Area (PWA), 8000 IN-26,
West Lafayette, IN 47906. Flights were done on DJI Mavic 2 Pro’s with the
onboard sensor being used. On day of flight conditions were good for flying.
Vehicles operated over burn fields at PWA, as well as over the salamander tanks
and construction zone. The northern burn plot had recently been burned, as
outlined in the burn map below. A comparison has been included between burn
plot dates in this document, though the last data set for that map was not
obtained until a week later.
